I loved the idea of the story. Jacob being 7 years older. but the execution left lacking.
and the way he talks to her...

Forbid Me M. Robinson
Forbid Me (Good Ol' Boys 2) by M. Robinson
Adult Contemporary, Interconnected Standalone
Angsty, Sexy, Fun, Forbidden, Alpha, Yummy. Forbid Me by M. Robinson was all of those things. Forbid Me is, according to the author, a full standalone. But the whole "Good ol' boys" crew was introduced in Complicate Me, and I think that Forbid me would have been a million times better if I had read that first. Don't get me wrong...I absolutely LOVED Jacob and Lily's story, but I found myself confused with the rest of the characters and I did feel like I missed something, because I couldn't keep the other characters straight.

Lucas is the star of the first book, and his best friend and little sister Jacob and Lillian are the stars of the second.  Jacob was 7 years older than Lily, and was there when she was born. He grew up with her as a close family friend, and almost a second brother when she is younger, naming her 'Kid'. Their relationship starts out so innocently. She has a crush, but he knows he is too old to feel the same, though there is a strange pull between them. But when you're 15 or 16, 23 is a HUGE, illegal gap.
fadedquoteIt was instinctual. It was wrong. She was fifteen fucking years old. Then why did it feel… So. Fucking. Right. This is so wrong. I’m going to hell. Fuck me."

These two are meant for each other. Even at 15 it didn't feel sordid, it just felt right, but Jacob knew he had to fight it. Sometimes though, he couldn't help letting his love spill out. So much so that he had to push her far, far away. Forbid Me is told in alternating past and present, and I didn't ever have a problem with the time jumps, they were all very smooth and I always knew where I was.

Forbid Me

Apparently in the first book, Jacob was completely against Lucas and Alex getting together, yet here he was, into Lucas's little baby sister. But Lucas is a life-long best friend and would absolutely KILL him if he knew. In fact, the judgment of all their friends and family will be rough to get past.

Lily is feisty and strong and has absolutely no doubt of her love, and she knows he feels the same. I loved her sense of humor, her playfulness, and her never doubting her feelings. And though I wanted to punch Jacob a few times, you never really doubted his feelings either.
fadedquoteI was blinded by her. Consumed by her. Wrecked by her. She owned each and every part of me, right down to my soul."

Let me tell you about Jacob. HOLY ALPHA HOTNESS!
fadedquoteI will reward you with burying my face into your sweet pussy and make you come down my beard."
"Jacob..."
"Say it Lillian..."

Likes:

  • •I love how even though Lillian was so young, it never felt bad or sordid. They never did anything really so wrong.

  • •Jacob...sigh...he is so freaking dominant and hot!

  • •I love an older man / younger woman story (I met my husband when I was 19 and he was 27).

  • •The emotions!!! At one point I was literally sitting on the toilet (don't judge me, it's the best reading spot in the house) and BAWLING my eyes out. (Luckily I had plenty of toilet paper to wipe those tears.)

  • •The sex. YUM.

  • •There was never any doubt of the real love and connection between the couple.

  • •Very well written.

  • •Excellent pacing, there were no times that it dragged.

Dislikes:

  • •I'm not sure I would have any dislikes had I read Complicate Me, but since I didn't, I must admit, I had a really hard time keeping the other characters straight. I think it would have been SO MUCH better had I read that first. I think the 'A' names (Austin, Aubrey, Alex...) helped fuel the confusion. That being said, I still loved the core romance.

  • •Along the same lines, there is a scene at the very end of the book that should get you excited for the next in the series, Dylan & Aubry, that didn't really grab me because I was not invested in those characters, in fact, I wasn't even sure who they were and how they fit into the group.

  • •The Good Ol' Boys Series name makes me feel like they are kind of backwoods hillbillies, or it's a cowboy series, neither is the case.

Rating:

4.25 stars (Probably would be closer to 5 had I read the first book), 4.5 Heat

The Down & Dirty:

Forbid Me by M. Robinson was my first book by her, but it won't be my last! I love her writing. It was the perfect blend of life-long love, angst, heartbreak, romance, forbidden love, and hot dominant sex. I loved the characters, but I do wish I read Complicate Me first because I found myself having trouble keeping the side characters straight. Forbid Me is considered a stand alone, and can absolutely be read as one, but I think it would have been so much better if I read the first one and fell in love with the whole group of friends.

I didn't love this one. The age gap when she was 15 was a bit much for me even though it was well executed. It boiled down to me just not liking Jacob. I found him a bit of an ass. He was domineering in a way I didn't find cute.

I liked this story better than Lucas and Alex. But I still am left with a creepy feeling about a "relationship" starting at the age of 10. I get it, Lily had a crush on Jacob, but the way things developed over the years and eluding to how they felt when they were younger still didn't feel right.

I know others love this book and I can appreciate what these two went through to get their happily ever after, but I guess the young age of the heroine does me in.

I'm curious about the next couple (especially since they were both teenagers when their relationship started) and will be looking for it come February.

Sooo goood!

I love this story. I am not so hot on the back and forth and prefer the style used in the first book of this series. That being said, Jacob and Lily’s story was so good. I wish it hadn’t ended.

Did not appreciate the book. A 23 year old man licking a 16 girls lady bits and a 16 giving a 23 year old man a blowjob is not good writing and definitely not a world wind romance. I give this book two thumbs down.

Jacob and Lily, Lily and Jacob what a mess they made. Jacob is doing the wrong thing for the "right" reasons, or so he thinks, and in the process he's, continuously, ripping out the heart of the only girl he's ever loved. Lily too mature for her age yet so naive and innocent. I really, really loved this book. My only problem is that I wanted to beat some sense into Lucas. Every single time he opened his mouth he unwittingly screwed something up. Again the author has left me baffled. And that ending OMFG

I see a theme developing as I read this series, other than than the obvious 2nd chance, and that's how to make it as difficult as possible for the MC's to get together by other people interfering and a lot of self sabotage.

In the first book I hadn't really taken to either the H or the h, in this the h shines and the hypocrite H doesn't. If you read the first book you'll understand why I refer to him that way. It's mentioned in this book to but if you haven't read the first you won't appreciate the depth of his hypocrisy. I also found the age thing when she was 15 a little icky. The writings good and there's enough here to keep you involved but the resolution comes with too much drama and once we have the big reveal, not a sufficiently good reason for the length of their last separation. It was all about him. As for friendships her brother isn't given the space to get over what is major deception by his best friend. That rankled. So far, other than Lilly (the h), I really don't find any of the characters in this little friendship group likeable.

I will continue to read the series all be it after a break as Dylan's and Aubrey's story calls.
