Leigh Bardugo never fails to make a whirlwind story full of tangible, flawed, and lovable characters. This book was entertaining and paid tribute to a lot of characters from her other series, which can be sweet at times. However, I think the plot relied too heavily on her other books at times. The book would have benefited from some of it's own conflicts rather than conflicts that have carried on from past books/charcters.

4.5 stars. Even before knowing about this series, I wanted more Nikolai and that’s exactly what we got. I’m excited to see where this duology will take me in the Grishaverse.

!!SPOILERS!!

I have mixed feelings on the Darkling returning. It may be because I have read and consumed too much media with one villain returning, but it felt like a Voldemort situation. Don’t get me wrong, the writing is amazing and it didn’t sour my taste for the story and I’m interested in where Bardugo is going to take this.
