“I’ve always pined over the scraps of love she leaves behind, ” When I read that phrase, I knew I would read the whole novel. It’s a great beginning, poetic, mysterious, and significant. Blue’s mother has become forgetful, self-absorbed, and disinterested in her things, leaving Blue to wonder if she and her sister Scarlett are also just detritus. Given the option to make a better life for herself in school, Blue becomes torn between work, caring for her sister, and school. It is all too much, and then the bullying makes her life so crazy I cannot understand how she can possibly manage it all.

“God, Blue!” she snaps, still choking back tears. “Is this really necessary?”
“If you’re not mature enough to have this conversation, you sure as hell aren’t mature enough to be having sex.”

I really love Blue’s interactions with her sister. After their mom disappears into druggy land, Blue is left parenting her 14-year-old sister. At that age her sister has started experimenting with her best friend, and Blue catches them in the act.
Never mind that Blue’s romantic possibilities are not as sweet.

“I’m an idiot,” I admit. “Because you showed me exactly who you are from day one, and I let myself fall right into your trap anyway.” Well, we knew that would happen, but at least she likes the way West treats her. They have a nonstandard relationship, which is what I want. If they are enemies, let them be enemies. I wouldn’t ever stand for spanking, bondage, stupid dirty talk or rear end sex in real life. Matter of fact, I had to scrub my eyes during some of the descriptions, but the story was so powerful I kept reading.

What can I say? Life is sweet. Life has no excitement right now. And in school I experienced bullying but was too pacifistic and a wallflower. I never knew how to fight back. These books show that bullying could have been much worse.
And life could be much worse.

I do think it is funny that both Blue and West have two siblings. Hunter is barely mentioned in the first novel, but there are hints of his criminal activities spilling over into Blue and Scarlett’s lives. And West’s discovery of a nude picture that looks like Blue is left unanswered. Stay tuned!

Good story!

I know that this book is a bully genre, but to me the bullying never stopped. The storyline was great and the character building was awesome. I was expecting the bullying to end around a little past halfway, but that didn’t happen. This book was slow burn and I prefer my books to be medium burn.

Proud but serially unlucky girl gets into stupid rich kid school and runs afoul the resident 'king', who then proceeds to make her life a living hell (for fun and because he's got a kink for it). Sexual tension flairs, as do the sheer number of problems girl has to deal with.. oh and then NOTHING gets resolved because it's a series. I'm bitter that I didn't know it was a series..

While a bit cheesy (like all bully/enemies to lovers books) This one was a good one. I was sucked in and couldn't wait to see what would happen next. I only wish there had been more of the two taunting one another.

4 stars

This was an unexpected book. I was totally engrossed trying to figure out the connection between Blue and West's family. Even at the end of this book, I'm still no closer to the answers I seek.

Parts of this were meh for me, only because it seemed so childish but the rest of it were great. The big secret, the chemistry between the characters, and interesting secondary characters made this a pretty solid book. The writing style was also good. I'm definitely going to read the next book because I want to know all the ways the many stories or plot points intersect.
