I really enjoyed this book at first. It was fast-paced enough, and I liked the two main characters well enough. The flashbacks to the past were engaging and didn’t distract from the main story too much. And then, about halfway through, I almost completely lost interest. The smut ruined the whole thing. I’m not opposed to steamy scenes, necessarily, but I’m realizing the more romance I read the more picky I am about the spice. In this book, it was poorly timed and poorly written, and just kind of gross, in my opinion… and it basically tanked my interest in the romance. And once you’ve lost interest in the romance while reading a romance, well… you’ve completely lost interest. I suppose it sort of redeemed itself some near the end because I was still interested in closure to Mrs. Nash’s story, I just didn’t care about Millie and Holllis anymore.

Hollis was definitely the shining star of this book, in which I found everything else to be just okay. The miscommunication was pretty staggering, especially considering Hollis clearly communicated his feelings throughout the book!

The third act breakup was also ROUGH, so be prepared.
