I loved this book; I truly didn't understand the concept of a lyric essay until I got into Abdurraqib's work. He makes reading about anything and everything interesting, even topics I have no interest in. Although, of course, the topics I do have vested interest in did call out to me more: I nearly cried while reading "Fall Out Boy Forever".

This was beautifully written and the essays were so compelling. The music I knew and was familiar with was so perfectly and lovingly described, and the music I got the chance to learn about and appreciate through this book was such a welcome surprise. It is heavy material at times and deeply focused on grief, so I took my time reading this and made sure I was in the right headspace, but it is an absolutely stunning collection of essays.

This is a great book; Abdurraqib  weaves a thought-provoking narrative through music reviews and personal stories.
