She woke up in a pile of snow on a Parisian street. She couldn’t remember anything, but there is a super hot guy with a gun calling her Alex and telling her to run. The only logical explanation…she’s a SPY!! This enemies to lovers, opposites attract book follows him and her as they try to solve the mystery of who she is, why she is in Europe and why does everyone keep trying to kill her? I love the main female character, she is so funny and real, and I love how she trusts herself and how strong she knows she is.

Lighthearted spy romance novel which I enjoyed. A quick read and the audiobook was great. At times a bit cheesy, but still fun overall.

If you loved the Gallagher Girls as much as I did as a tween/teen, then you should definitely be reading Ally Carter’s first adult offering, The Blonde Identity. It is very much GG-coded, even though there are no shared characters. But, spies and twins and amnesia and Paris? It’s a great rom-com with equal parts action and romance.

Our main female character wakes up with an operative standing over her, telling her to run. The only catch is she has no idea who she is, who this operative is, or how she ended up in Paris. The only thing she does know is this operative, who we can call Sawyer, is the only person who can keep her safe from the dozens of people trying to kill her. But, they are mistaking her for her twin sister, a twin the operative didn’t believe existed until now.

Everything about this is what I wanted for an adult GG-esque book. There is romance in the worst of times, spies and tricks and double-crossing galore, and an ending I didn’t predict. I thought I knew where it was going, and then the story took a massive right turn, and I’m here for it.

We also can’t ignore that our MMC has some personal growth for the better, which makes for a great internal monologue to be privy to. And, as our FMC tries to put together the pieces of her life, we get a fun aha moment when we figure it out along with her.

Ally Carter wrote books that made me squeal at 15 and it appears she can do it at 25. She can blend spy thriller with heartfelt romcom like no other. I really liked REDACTED and Alex, even though she's only in like a quarter of the book if that. I am a sucker for a romantic lead that is just a bit of a freak.  I even liked Sawyer, if he is a bit of a genre stereotype. I also stand by my theory that YA authors can write sexual tension better than anyone since they can't jump straight into it. Though I will warn you it is fade to black. I had a hell of a time and I'm looked forward to the presumable next book.
Banger hilarious ending line also.

The dedication literally made me sob. Thank you Ally Carter for writing this book (and all of your books) for me.

While romcoms tend not to be the most prestigious examples of literature, this book was certainly a damn good time. I don’t think I’ve ever read a book that has made my heart burst in every single chapter, but this book hit the mark. Ally even made me not hate a man calling a woman “sweetheart.” Not to mention she gave a great addition to the classic “I’ll kill anyone who hurts you” line.

This book made me giggle and blush and kick my feet and occasionally check my pulse. It also made me very sentimental. For these reasons it is my first 5 star read of the year (almost 9 months in oops). I’m an Ally stan through and through.
