This was putting me in a slump, so decided to leave it for now. Might come back to it on audio.

I took this book randomly from the library - did not expect it to become one of my favorite books ever. I see conflicting opinions about the book, especially between the first and second part of the book. However, in my opinion, it makes sense that it is structured like that, and the different voices that process emotions and what has happened differently. I think Tequila Leila will stay with me for a while.

this is now one of my favorite books of all time. the characters all felt so raw and real (my personal favorite was Nostagia Nalan), and of course Leila especially was one of the best main characters i have ever read. there are a few things i could see bothering some readers (strange pacing, much more focus on some characters rather than others), but personally those worked for me.

This book from beginning to end was such an amazing read. You won’t want to put the book down. From character development, learning the history of another culture, and the overall way the author uses language to perfectly describe places, things, people to make you feel so deeply. Love this book.

Shafak beuatifullly weaves narratives and prose to create Tequila Lelia’s story. This is a story that blends her experience of death and her life, whilst also exploiting the affects on her found family. The plot, characters and word choice is excellent, however i the reason why I have not given this novel 5 stars is because strong emotion was not evoked eg sadness, happiness etc.
