Started going down a road I am not interested in reading about.  NOPE!

the first part was very impactful and a great read; the second part sadly not so much. the change was pretty jarring, some of the characters acted almost cartoonish. i don't think part two was terrible, but it didn't really work for me compared to the strong start. if the book had ended after the first part or if the first part had been extended instead this would've been easily a four star read. ignoring the weaker aspects of the book, i still thought the story was very touching and definitely worth the read!

this was as outstanding as it was absolutely horrifying. one of the most difficult books I've read -- every chapter was women suffering from gender-based violence, constantly coming from all directions.

but there's truly nothing like beautifully written stories of found-family. each and every character felt like a real person who was fully fleshed out.

also fucking sue me, I love when books discuss the effects of religious fanatics, especially men who use their religious beliefs to terrorize their families.

It started off very promising but somewhere about 60% through, it lost steam. Maybe it was too many characters, but it just didn’t come together into something cohesive.
