A solid, straightforward, yet somewhat formulaic effort from Silva, as Gabriel Allon uses a female art enthusiast to infiltrate a terrorist organization to uncover a plot against the Pope, and ultimately the President. I think Allon's detachment from the female spy somewhat dulled the enthusiasm here, but still a gripping book from who I consider one of the better writers out there right now.

A reluctant 4 stars. I enjoyed it enough but the beginning is too implausible and the end too hastily concluded and too neat. The middle, setting the plan in motion and executing it, is Silva using his Allon stories at their best. It is still a thrilling read but not my favorite of the series. Again, I critique harsher for these books because of my love for Silva's "The Unlikely Spy." I really need to get over that. The Gabriel Allon novels are great and I enjoy them a lot and look forward to reading the next one. But halfway through the series, I really should know by now what I'm getting.

5 stars

The Messenger is the sixth book in the Gabriel Allon series by Daniel Silva.
This time art restorer and sometimes spy, Gabriel Allon will be tested like never before, facing his greatest challenge as he is thrust into danger, facing an evil mastermind, as Gabriel untangles a web of lies and deception, uncovers conspiracies, and exposes a daring assassination plot. Edge of seat reading!
As I have mentioned before, this is another book/series that has been languishing on my TBR- which I finally got around to dusting the cobwebs off- and jumped right in. I read the series back to back.

3.5 stars. It was decent, but once again the main story fizzled a bit and the last 10 minutes were spent quickly wrapping up what should have been the focus of the action. Less history in this one.

Pretty intense book. Lots of action and good characters. Pretty clean, only a little bit of language and not overly violent. I was given this after someone else had read it and I didn't realize it was part of a series. I wish I would have read the first books to be able to have some back story on the main character. Good book, but not the greatest book.
