This felt more like a psychological thriller than anything. The part that horrified me the most was how absolutely no control Oghi had after his life, and how no one gave a shit about his recovery; doctors, friends, his physical therapist, no one. He was neglected and abused by his mother-in-law who clearly blamed him for his wife's death. The writing was good, but I think something was definitely lost in translation.

Not what I was expecting from the blurb.

2.5 *s. I'm so disappointed with this one because I thought for sure I would love it. After a horrible car accident where his wife dies, Oghi awakes from a coma completely paralyzed. He is left in the care of his mother-in-law which is where the comparisons to Stephen King's Misery come to play. Despite the short length of this novel, I often found myself bored. While some moments are horrific, it's Oghi's more subtle remembrances of his life with his wife that are more important here. I'm wondering if it was the translation that left me wanting. It's the type of novel that when I reached the end, I felt like I would benefit from rereading certain passages. Unfortunately in this case, I found it all so painful that I couldn't make myself go back.

If you're interested in a book that with both raise your blood pressure (purposefully) AND creep the hell out of you then this is where it's at.
God, even the ending.. i'm speechless, i'm not sure if i'm a fan of it i'm still wrapping my head around it

I loved the writing style so much, it was normal but it kept building the tension veeeery slowly and subtly until you reach a point where you're physically uncomfortable.
And god even the premise is nightmarish,
The whole experience is just one long nightmare (but not in a oh god this is horrifying with blood and gore, it's much more subtle, it's about the situation itself)
dark tense medium-paced

This book was just... weird. The atmosphere was definitely tense and ominous, and for a while, I enjoyed the psychological lens of describing the characters, but slowly and steadily it got quite dense and description-heavy. It was also a bit hard to follow on audio because everyone is either referred to by an initial or by their relationship to Oghi (e.g., mother-in-law). I expected that the ending would still redeem this book for me because I've heard from other people that it's quite dark and twisty, but sadly that wasn't the case. I thought it ended at quite a bizarre point, it felt like the story got cut off abruptly. A forgettable read personally. I do think if you go into this book knowing that you probably won't be shocked and it's kind of the slow-burn of seeing everything unfold that's supposed to appeal to you, then you might like it better than I did.
