Oooh I really enjoyed this one! Fable reminds me so much of Tress, an adventurer lacking the usual 'woe is me in a weak female' often found in fantasy. Great pacing and characters I quickly grew attached to and a good ending (that I did predict) that makes me glad I borrowed book two part way through reading this one!

Fable grew up on a ship with her father as captain and her mother as a dredger (diver). It was a wonderful life until a severe storm sank the ship; and her mother drowned. Her father took her to an island and abandoned her on the island with no shelter or family. Four years later, Fable has survived by using her diving skills and finds a way off the island with a ship called the Marigold. She makes her way to Ceros to meet up with her father and show him that she is a survivor. Along the way, she joins the crew of the Marigold, and they develop their own sort of family. This was such a fast-paced, fun story; and I loved all the characters. I can't wait to read the next story in this duology.
