This is a great book….but for young adults (which is what it’s written for). There are some YA books that transcend the genre, but this wasn’t one for me. Because of this, I found it hard to rate. I would give it 3.5 stars, if I could, for the appeal to younger readers. I could have seen myself liking this book in high school. But, it won’t be a book I recommend to everyone.

I was so pleasantly surprised by how good this book is! It's definitely YA in that most of the characters are somewhat flat, but the FMC is dynamic and the sea-faring world is so colorful and interesting. The slow-burn romance was believable and the villain is realistically evil. The little rock girlie in me also loved all the precious minerals and gemstones. :)

Ahhh I need the second book NOW! Slow build up but once you’re half way through, it’s hard to stop. Really enjoyed the pirate-esque adventures, and like I said, I really need to read more.
