"Don't judge a book by its cover" is how it's said. Well, to be honest, I definitely judged this book by its cover! I mean, who wouldn't? The mysterious and beautiful young female, only half of her face showing. Who is she? Why do I only see half of her face? Fable. Is that her name?
A girl, whose family's ship was tossed around during a very violent storm. Her father left her, on the shore. No family. No friends. No food, no money, no resources. No resources aside from her knowledge and skills that her mother and father and shipmates had taught her. Life was rough. Before the storm, and even moreso after.
I urge you to give this young adult fable a read. Find out for yourself who or what said Fable is.
I am immediately jumping in, head first, to the next book in this series, Namesake. I can't wait for the continuation of fantastic storytelling, character development, plot, description of setting, and everything good about a good written adventure.
Like I said, give this a read! Author Adrienne Young knows what she's doing.

really surprised by this one! this was such a fun seafaring YA pirate fantasy! Love the cast of characters, the boats, Fable, the world, it all felt really fun and fleshed out and new! it still had some standard ya moments but overall this really hit for me! my main issue was that i just didn’t believe how deep she could free dive, but it’s also a fantasy, so it’s ok

I loved my experience reading Fable, and I am going to be pre-ordering Namesake, it’s sequel! I am glad that I waited a bit to read it despite the hype because now I don't have to wait as long before the next one since it ended on quite the cliffhanger. The premise for Fable is very creative, and I find the dynamic between Fable and Saint very interesting!

Abandoned on a desolate island of thieves after the tragic death of her mother, Fable is determined to find a way back to her powerful trader father to prove her worth and earn her inheritance. Enlisting the begrudging help of a young trader and his motley crew, she has finally found her way off the island and unknowingly stepped into a treacherous position as her saviors have secrets of their own. As she navigates the world of trade in the Narrows, filled with danger, deception, and malice, she soon realizes her destiny may not lie where she expected and the home she has longed for is closer than she ever imagined.

I picked this up at the recommendation of MANY people, both friends and those on social media and not only is it an eye catching cover but it's a captivating story. The author quickly immerses us into a world where most life is spent on the sea or near it and most commerce is based around ship trade and the wealth of its depths. Our heroine takes us deep into the ocean to experience its ebbs and flows, its shadows and columns of light, its creatures and treasures, as well as into the perilous world of trading where greed and cunning thrive. I loved the descriptions of the sea when Fable was diving and the insight into the running of a ship with the different but equally important roles. It's a kind of world I haven't visited in awhile and Young certainly does a great job at pulling you in.

Fable's tale has you captivated from the very beginning, with the mystery of her past and her abandonment hanging over her head, as well as the riddle of West's unexpected enterprise and secretive crew. Because Fable has been separated from this world for so long, we re-experience it with her, mixed her own childhood nostalgia, sorrow over the loss of her mother, and desperation to gain the love of her formidable father, Saint. Her journey is one of adventure and danger, hope and romance, and an unexpected ending that will have you picking up the sequel immediately after putting this one down.

I really enjoyed this. However, to me it starts of a bit slow and felt a bit rushed at the end.
Thankfully I got the second book from NetGalley so I can find out how the story finishes!
