As a response to Richardson's Pamela, I can definitely appreciate what Feilding does to poke at material. I think him satirizing many of the events that happen in Pamela and playing not only the virtue of the character of Shamela, but also honesty. After reading the entirety of Pamela you will definitely feel validated in your complaints and it is fun to see the book laughed at. My only problem is still the material. I do not really like what the text means to present of itself and I find the characters, while entertaining, still not worth investing in. It is a product of its time after all.

Bawdy, vulgar, and occasionally laugh out loud funny, it almost makes up for reading [b:Pamela; or, Virtue Rewarded|417549|Pamela; or, Virtue Rewarded|Samuel Richardson|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1387740117s/417549.jpg|2214950]. The more I think about it, the more funny I find it that someone felt the same way I did about Pamela, even back then! She's too obnoxious a heroine not to make fun of!

better than the original only because he kept it short and sometimes funny. other than that this was mostly a nightmare and i'd be more than happy to never think of this book again
