Book : Gone Tonight

Thank you NetGalley, St. Martin’s press, & the author for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Do you love:

- Domestic Thrillers
- Suspense
- Twists & Turns Left & Right
- Family Ties
- Dual POV w/alternating chapters (MY FAV!)

This book is for you!

I love a good twisty domestic thriller & I had never read anything from Sarah before and let me just start by saying that I will continue to watch for her releases because her writing style really does something for me. The characters in this read were so well done and the dialogue and storyline was perfection. This was one heck of a book. I sat down and opened this up and lost track of the entire day.

Without giving too much away because I think with this one I would…we follow a Ruth (the mother) who got pregnant with her daughter (Catherine) in high school and raised her into a beautiful young adult and she just graduated nursing school. Not long after we realize that her Ruth is forgetting things and they begin to wonder if possibly she has the early onsets of Alzheimer’s causing her daughter to put her life journey on hold — but the story takes a twist and we follow them on a wild ride that will have you hanging off the edge of your seat.

This book was hands down just wonderful! So many secrets, so many twists and mysterious turns. You never really know what’s going to happen next. I was not expecting the ending that was for sure. This book was probably another one of my favorite for the 2023 year. If you haven’t thought about picking up this book yet, this is your reminder. Cannot wait for the next one!

Now this was a thriller, I stinking loved it. I loved the constant zooming out of the story and yeah, it was kinda predictable but by that point, it felt so high octane that I didn't even care. The two main characters were complex and not exactly loveable but definitely not people you rooted against either.
But also there is *definitely* something wrong with Katherine

This book follows a mother and daughter relationship and their devious dance against each other.

Both daughter and mother are hiding secrets from one another and as the story unfolds both of them are thrown into a messy situation that helps both uncover their secrets.

Trigger warning: Sexual assault

It was sad at times, but it was necessary for the plot to move along

Audiobook thoughts:

Loved the narrator so much!

When it comes to audiobooks it's important to find narrators that can inbody the characters and bring them to life.

I enjoyed this audiobook experience so much!

would I recommend? yes, absolutely!

What happens when you learn the person you trust the most has been lying to you? What happens when you realize those lies go further than you could imagine?

“Gone Tonight” explores a close-knit mother/daughter relationship that starts to unravel because of a lie. The story starts off with promise, as Catherine and Ruth deal with horrible health diagnosis that will change both their lives. However slowly and because of this diagnosis, Catherine starts to uncover cracks in the stories Ruth has told her daughter her whole life. As more and more cracks surface, Catherine becomes determined to find out the truth while Ruth is determined to keep her past hidden.

A thriller in it’s purest form, this story provides the twists and turns that I expected, but I wish they weren’t as predictable as they were. I’m not usually the type of reader that guesses the twists in the story, so when the unusual happens, I can’t help but be disappointed a bit. The detail the author sprinkles through the story to make the ending conceivable is also what makes it foreseeable. By the time I got the end, it wasn’t a matter of what would happen, but when it would happen.

The start and buildup were well written and enjoyable, so I don’t think a thriller lover will be disappointed in giving this book a try, whether its an ok read or a great read will depend on how much they can guess as they read along.

**Thank you so much to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advanced copy of this book in exchange for this review. All thoughts expressed here are my own. I appreciate the opportunity**

This was not what I was expecting whatsoever, but I ended up really enjoying the interwoven mystery and slow pacing.
