This was nice. I loved that it's a really quiet, ordinary, everyday, sweet story about trans nerds falling in love--no drama, no angst, no bad things happening. That said, I honestly didn't find it very interesting. I found the writing and the characters and the plot to be pretty flat, which is a shame. I stopped halfway through a few weeks ago because it was a bit boring, but it's quite short, so I finished it and, in the end, it just wasn't very engaging for me. Other people really like it, so I think it just didn't work for me. I'm non-binary, not trans, but it seemed like the gender stuff was well done and well presented. I'm glad there are everyday, ordinary, sweet love stories about trans people, but it's a bummer this one didn't work for me.

This is a sweet trans love story with a wonderful theme involving the impact of fantasy.

There is no drama, angst, or really anything bad that happens in this story so if you need something with a bit more excitement this might not be the book for you. I struggled to engage with the book because of this but otherwise viewed it as a nice, relaxing read.

I thought this novel was the perfect length to fit my current mood. It was not too long and not too short without feeling that the ending was rushed.

The main characters, Samus and Jackie are at different stages in their lives in terms of discovering themselves as well as some other aspects. Despite this, they are able to connect over their love of board games and video games.

Overall, an okay book that you can read in an afternoon.

A good read! I felt the premise was interesting and the various journeys the characters took to be fun.

Received from NetGalley for my honest review
Completed 5/13/18
116 page ebook

Typically for books around 100 pages, I don't like to rate higher than a 3, because I usually like to get a full long story, but this book was so good that I rated it a 5 despite being so short.

This book probably won't be for everyone, but I loved it. It was my first book with a Trans character, I think, or at least it was definitely my first in with a coming out Trans character and I love the way it was handled. I thought it was very well done and very believable. I liked both the MCs, who they were and who they became. It was just a fun, heartfelt story with a pretty big emotional punch for such a short book.

I initially wanted to read the book for the gamer aspect of it, and while there was some game components in it, it was definitely about the MCs, their personal journeys, and their budding relationship. It caught my attention right away and I was sucked in. Would have loved to have read more about these two but really enjoyed it a ton.

Recommended for LBGT+ Friendly people, those who like a simple but heartfelt story and those who like coming out stories.
