Correspondence between a new educator and a famous educational writer.

One of the most powerful commentators on the current American school system, Kozol again takes a critical look at how schools are run. It is less vitriolic than his previous books. The care and respect he has for teachers and the plights they are put in, the rocks and hard places they navigate, make this book feel more personal. I would especially recommend this book to new teachers or those who are thinking of being teachers.

So thankful to have an author like this to remind us all about what's important, in the immediate and global sense, in education. Feel lucky to have "known" him for fifteen years.

I wanted to like it, but it felt like it had a depressing undertone about education. I wanted to end with more hope!

Though I’m not a k-12 teacher, this still has some important lessons for us all. Good read.
