Not as enticing as the first book. I now find Anakin/Darth Vader more annoying, and I’m sad that Eli was not in this book.

Not enough Thrawn in the story. He seemed to be a secondary character at times.

I definitely preferred the first book.

~Things I liked~
°the bantering between Vader and Thrawn
°the parallels between the two timelines and how they kept mirroring each other
°the overall darker tone in regards to war
°the exploration of Thrwans morality (what a funky bastard he is, huh)

~Things I didn't like~
°the convoluted story with way too many things happening and nothing making sense for basically the entire book
°there were far fewer "Thrawn is a clever fucker" moments than in the first book
°I generally preferred the layout of the first book where it was 'somebody tells Thrwans he's shit, he goes above and beyond to prove them wrong'

Without spoilers you really see the psychological shift of one character. You also get to see another well known character in their element kicking ass and taking names. You also get an insight into the level of Thrawn's observational powers, in contrast with his lacking interpersonal skills. It shows his softer side too. Great follow up to the first book.

1) Anakin and Padme don't need a screen to bring down your IQ level, they can do it just as well from the pages of a book.
2) Thrawn >>>>>>> whiny ass Vader.
3) Gotta watch Rebels now ugh that's 4 seasons I hate my life and existence.
4) Arsenal.

This book is SO good. Especially if you are a prequels fan. Timothy Zahn does an incredible job of going back and forth with Thrawn & Anakin and Thrawn & Vader. Highly, highly recommend.

My only critique is that it feels out of place going from the first book to this. Like where is Eli Vanto!?
