Took a bit to get into this one but wow, what developments! I really like the new dynamics and a prophecy is always fun. Excited for the finale!

I enjoy this world and I enjoy some of the characters, but I still think the first three books were much better than this second trilogy is turning out to be.

It seems like the author changed his mind about what this book was going to be about after he wrote the last one. At the end of the previous book, there were some interesting and, I thought, lasting consequences of Jacob's actions. He got on the bad side of the ymbrynes, his friends turned away from him, he was on his own. It really seemed like things were going in an interesting new direction. Well, the first couple chapters of this book basically undid all that. How dare we believe that his friends would abandon him?

SpoilerIt reminds me a bit of the Star Wars sequel trilogy: no apparent plan, and the only thing they can think of to do is to bring back the old Evil Supreme Bad Guy. And let's not forget that the whole peace negotiation with the American clans, which was stated to be so vital at the end of the last book and is the meaning behind the title of this one, basically gets resolved as an afterthought. In the immortal words of Ryan George, it was "super easy, barely an inconvenience." It's like the author set up this whole big plot line and then decided he didn't care, all in the same book.

The weakest part of the book, as always, is the romance. I had high hopes that Jacob's relationship with Noor would be something besides a romantic one, but who was I kidding? Noor seemed like an interesting character until then. It didn't bother me quite as much as the thing with Emma (
Spoileralthough I definitely thought they resolved things with Emma far too easily
), but it still feels like some kind of wish fulfillment fantasy. Once again it doesn't seem like real love. Jacob sees her as someone he can guide, help, and protect. It's not an equal thing. But these are teenagers, after all, so maybe my expectations are just too high.

In the end, this book was fine. It was a fun ride, just not amazing. I kinda wish he had stopped on the high note of book three. But yes, I probably will read the next one just to see how it turns out.

This is an action packed installment in this drawn out series. I enjoyed it more than the last book.
There’s a bit of romance, trying to stop a war and lots of different mysteries to try to unravel.

Honestly, I’m finding this series less interesting as I go. This book almost felt like it was just a setup for the next, rather than having substance of its own.
