Definitely a page turner (or whatever the audio equivalent is) and it builds a sense of mystery nicely, without even being totally clear what that mystery is. Lots of suggestions and potential avenues to explain. The characters felt pretty well drawn, although not necessarily hugely likeable. Ultimately, it was fairly light and there was a bit too much coincidence. Fun for background listening while I was at the gym as I didn't have to pay too much attention.

Meh. It took over 60% of the book for something to happen and then the good stuff happened too quickly, it felt rushed. The characters all suck, are extremely morally grey. The main character was so rude to her assistant and that bothered me a lot, but we were supposed to be rooting for her the whole time. I only liked her slightly bc she loved her kid. Of all the thrillers out there, I wouldn’t recommended this one.

A decent thriller, even though I picked some of the (smaller) twists and was a little annoyed when the dual POV approach ended up with some repetitive moments. But I didn't guess the biggest twists, and it had the type of ending I prefer - no loose ends.

I enjoyed the structure of the book, it made it fairly fast-paced. I have to say the ending to the main “mystery” was a shock to me, something I wouldn’t have guessed on my own. I feel the resolution to Avery’s dilemma was quickly written just to be wrapped up. It didn’t feel substantial enough for us to have read about it throughout the book.  It could’ve just been eliminated from the plot altogether as it didn’t add anything.

a man turning out to be crazy and abusive
in thrillers will never surprise me.

the book is pretty good overall, though. both perspectives—client marissa and ‘consultant’ avery—are engaging. so refreshing that avery is a woman happily single with a good career.

marissa distrusts other women the whole book, while it was her own damn husband.
and at the end the women support each other. I like the subversion of the catty women stereotype here.

Literally buy it. Kept me on my toes. I thought I knew what was happening and then I was hit with a brick. I feel lied to. Currently questioning everything. Jaw dropping.

I enjoyed reading this book and went through it pretty quickly thanks to the fast pace and mystery. The end
fell flat for me, and some aspects were just too convenient and seemed to only come together so the book can be completely tied up with a little bow of “the end”

It is something I’d most enjoy as a beach or vacation read if I had to pick the best time for it.
