I enjoyed reading this book and went through it pretty quickly thanks to the fast pace and mystery. The end
fell flat for me, and some aspects were just too convenient and seemed to only come together so the book can be completely tied up with a little bow of “the end”

It is something I’d most enjoy as a beach or vacation read if I had to pick the best time for it.

I wanted to love this book, but it fell a bit flat for me.

The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen is another page-turner from the writing duo, however not my favorite of theirs.  That said, I am glad I read it and looked forward to picking it up each day so don’t be discouraged from reading this one.

In this story we meet Marissa, a woman who has just cheated on her husband and sought the help of Avery, a former therapist with an unconventional approach to helping people overcome issues.  The story switches between their two POVs which positively added to the mystery.  It teeters on unreliable narrator but isn’t full-fledged.  More like you’re not sure which narrator you can fully trust, which I love.

Without spoilers, the main reason this didn’t do it for me was the dual plots.  There were two intersecting mysteries and it created murkiness for me.  Sometimes I can appreciate the split-focus as a distraction from the twist coming, but in this case one plotline got a lot of detail and another had a rushed ending, which just left it feeling extraneous.

If you enjoy mysteries, this is still worth the read for the page-turning aspect.  I’ve seen others who loved this book so don’t let me dissuade you from reading it, especially if you have enjoyed their other books.  If you’ve read it, let me know!

Quick listen, with the right vibe for a twisty thriller. I wouldn't say it was predictable, but it wasn't very surprising/unique. I did appreciate that they made the "therapist" not an actual therapist from the start so that the unorthodox methods weren't at unbelievable. I think having more of Avery would have added more... Warmth, maybe? I don't know, something was missing for me.

Would've been a straight 4 but something about the ending I didn't like. I really loved the premise of this. A therapist lost her license and makes her business thrive by finding unorthodox ways to help her clients. Avery was my favorite character by far. I would love to read another story with her in it just doing her therapist thing.
