This book was a very difficult to read. So so much war and loss and despair that is so well depicted that I had to take some breaks

This book definitely took me on a journey. I think one thing everyone should know getting into this book is that there’s no quest the characters have been set on. They’re all simply victims (some more than others) of the upper class controlling everything.
One thing I disliked was how many pages it took for the war to actually happen. Other than that, it was a good book and I truly felt like I’d seen a morsel of life in Biafra during the war. Kainene was probably my favourite character, she was so strong and independent. No one deserved her.
