Phenomenal writing. She has made the Biafran War tangible to someone very far removed from it and the perspectives of the very different yet related characters added much depth to the story. Absolutely heartbreaking but also shows the strength of the human spirit and how it is willing to fight for what it believes.

This was a pretty good read. Though it is historical fiction, the stories were so captivating and relatable that it could have been modern day stories. It helped me to learn about a piece of history that I wasn't sure of. While it was hard to keep up with all the different characters and storylines at first, I eventually was able to differentiate between everyone.
Some of the sex scenes felt unnecessary. I'm still unsure of Ogwu's "urges" and what they meant.
Overall, this story has a little bit of everything: love, family issues, civil war, international views of war, heartbreak, betrayal, and moments of joy.
