This book is fantastic; very immersive and emotionally truthful. Takes even those who cannot relate to African culture and exposes the raw complexity that underlays humanity. This book is historical fiction about the Biafran war but it relies much more on the deep complexity of humanity and love that we all are capable of. I plan on checking out Adichie's other novels because her writing style is very alluring.

I appreciated learning about the history and social structures of Nigeria in the 1960s. This book also depicts the harrowing civil war and that was emotionally draining to process. It’s of course important to document in an accessible way, though.

this is one of those reads where i am less focused on the prose and more wrapt in immersing myself in the story, learning from the history, and trying to understand the characters. for example, there are several mentions of HIgh Life music listened to by Olanna, so i listened to a HIgh Life mix while i read this book. i fell in love with the characters; this was a captivating read. i love the various perspectives we're given and felt like coming back to old friend each time i opened the page. new favourite author: chimanda ngozi adichie.

I was just going through the motions with this book . I found it really hard to connect with any of the characters though I sympathised with what they were going through .
