While this book was cute, it wasn't for me. It was all fine, but I struggled to care about what Riley and Max we're going thought.

I was so into the storyline and the tension, and then they just kind ofâŚhad sex? which honestly made it feel like a lot of the tension was gone and instead they just actually needed to communicate, which was much less exciting since a lot of that uncertainty and stuff was understated by them already having sex. It just felt so early and that made most of the middle section slow and boring. the ending ramped it up again though and saved the story for me, so I have to give credit where credit is due there.

This book feels like nothing but wasted potential. Itâs supposed to be a love letter to Swifties but it comes off as cheap and inauthentic. The lyrics donât have any nuance which is why I usually stay away from books with musician MCs. Even worse is the writing itself, which is heavy handed and jam packed with forced musical metaphors. The only thing they do well is letting an awkward conversation hang in the air.
Riley is a bad caricature of Taylor Swift and a stupid one too. Girlie pop just walks around a major city with no security? I can suspend my disbelief a little but thereâs no universe in which her personal safety would be risked like that. And sheâs an enormous star who lets her team tell her theyâre using her ex-husbandâs obsession with her work as free marketing for them? They work for you, baby girl, not the other way around! If Ms Swift read this, Iâm sure sheâd be offended.
Even if I ignored all the bothersome industry things, I canât buy into the couple. Riley and Max have zero chemistry. Everything is based on what they had before but we didnât get to see that. Their declarations of love ring hollow because theyâre not real people. Theyâre just shells. I get more authentic emotion from the person on TikTok who does the 2am pretending Iâm headlining an international stadium tour videos.

This book was inspired by Taylor Swift. It's even dedicated to her. However, if you are a Swiftie, and you want to pick up this book. I caution against it. I'm not going to speculate on whether the authors are fans or not. But this book is like what the media thinks Taylor Swift is: the serial dater who only writes break up songs about her exes. There is even a part in the book where Riley is going to pick up a guy and is writing the song of their break up in her head as she is going through the interaction. Maybe the authors are doing what Taylor Swift did with Blank Space and doing satire of her media image, but if they are I would have liked that to have been said somewhere.
All that aside, taking this book as just a contemporary romance with a second chance romance trope, it was still ok. The language is very lyrical and poetic. Sometimes overly so. The characters are not that likable to me. I wanted them to get together, but at the same time didn't really care. The pining was drawn out longer that it needed to be.
I borrowed the audiobook from the library via Libby. I liked that the dual-POV was read by a female and male narrators. The songs mentioned in the book that Riley writes are at the end. They were fun to read. That was a nice touch added.

I read some low reviews of this book from Swifties and feel like I need to be honest and transparent up front that I am not a Swiftie. It's not that I don't like her music, but I definitely am not a follower. My favorite music by her is still her very first album... Anyway, that being said I loved this book. I love second chance romance and I love music and I loved these characters even when they were being stupid.
I really loved the parts that revolved around them playing and writing music together. I found those parts to be incredibly intimate even when they were on stage and even when they weren't being honest about their feelings for each other or communicating the best.
I also really loved Max's heart for his day job. I love reading about characters that truly love what they do. I also loved how Riley treated everyone who she worked with and her fans. That is my kind of celebrity.
I listened to this via Libby and highly recommend it on audio. The narrators were great and as always I loved the writing of this author couple. They are amazing writers.

Taylor swift songs: âmidnight rainâ, âAll too well (TMV)(tv)(ftv)â, âelectric touch (tv)(tv)â, âpeaceâ, âthe archerâ, âlast kiss (tv)â
Age rating: 15+ (2 brief spicy scenes 0.5/5đśď¸)
If you are a Swiftie you need to read this ASAP! This is the most swiftie novel to ever exist in the best way! It is actually inspired by Taylor Swift, coincidentally it is about a breakup tour, even though this was written months prior to the announcement of the âEras Tourâ. This novel is a second-chance romance that explores the mentality behind a female singer-songwriter who, similarly to Swift, has been labeled the âQueen of breakup songsâ by the public/media. It really delves into the mindset of someone who bares their heart and soul to the world, as well as the consequences of that. It also begs the question that many artists (who write primarily about heartbreak) are asked, âwhat will you write about when you ever get happy?â I was incredibly intrigued and fascinated by this concept in general, and even more since I am such a huge Taylor Swift fan!
Wibroka writes the best male love interests honestly. I loved Max, he was such a sweet, down to earth man who truly loves her with his whole being. I loved this idea of the pop-star going back for her greatest âlost loveâ, albeit in an unconventional way. Their chemistry is palpable from the very beginning, and only becomes stronger and clearer. This romance will definitely pull on your heartstrings. I will admit that when I read the three full songs at the end (yes they included three full songs mentioned throughout the books at the end, what canât they do) I did tear up, and I donât usually get emotional at books.
Wibberly and Siegemund-Broka (aka Wibroka) have some of the most poetic and beautiful writing in the romance genre, in my opinion. I read almost solely romance, and their work always stands out to me. I would recognize it anywhere, I could pick it out of a lineup. The writing is truly intricate and moving, and I would truly read anything they wrote. Needless to say, this is my fourth book of theirs I have rated 5âď¸, out of the four books of theirs I have read, which no other author I have ever read has done.
I was sent this advanced reader copy by the authors, but this review was 100% my own. If you have read my reviews before, you know I am brutally honest. I am lucky enough to know the authors (through social media) and they were kind enough to want to send me a copy! They are seriously the sweetest.
