The writing was just excellent. This tells a relatively simple story that's steeped in complex inner emotional arcs. I went from feeling uncertain if I wanted my monster romance to have this kind of real world horror, loss, and sorrow to being amazed by the character work and how well the author tells this story.

While this is definitely a romance filled with the expected steamy scenes and it's also deeply entrenched in all monster romance staples, it would be dismissive to call it just a standard monster romance. This is definitely an iceberg story with many deep currents under the surface.

I was kind of interested in the demon realm. I wish the author could have expounded on that more.
