One of the weaker Redwall novels because just a little too much is going on. There are groups at Salamandastron, Redwall, the Northern Mountains, an island in the middle of a lake, in Mossflower and in a vermin encampment. Too many characters that are similar, too many for there to be any main characters. It can be hard to keep track of everyone. The villain is a particularly bloodthirsty blue-eyed stoat who kills off a troupe of interchangeable rat minions throughout the book. I JUST read it and I can't remember how he was defeated. I don't think it adds much to the canon--you could skip it.

Skillfully weaving multiple storylines that intersect later, Jaques story of a runaway badger coming of age has plenty of pathos and tragedy, but also found family and adventure. Perfect.

Read aloud to Kenneth

He may not have a knocker on his nose, but 3 of these stars are for Dumble the Dormouse and that's all I have to say about THAT!
