A really lovely cozy fantasy with some excellent action scenes thrown in and great world building! I loved the vibe of this one, and Elle and Luc are an adorably awkward couple. This took some surprising twists and turns to a satisfying conclusion. I can’t wait for more Mia Tsai books!

This felt very fanficcy, but I enjoyed it a lot nevertheless. The blending of different magical traditions was done well. And I found Elle's self-loathing maybe too relatable. I think it could possibly have been tightened up a little with maybe one less plotline going on? But overall still a very fun read.
