I initially bought this book because Red Queen is my favorite series and I loved how this book was advertised and it was such a pretty book, I couldn't pass it up... and let me just say, it did NOT disappoint. This book played with my emotions! One minute I was team Torryn and the next I was team Evander. I unfortunately loved Evander even though I KNEW, I JUST KNEW, that I would regret that choice, but I COULDN'T HELP IT! I think that just goes to show Laurens writing ability. The world building, the character development, the attachments I got with each character, THE CLIFF HANGER AT THE END?!?!I couldn't have been done any better. I am now on pins and needles waiting for Valor Born to release!

SO good!!! Been chasing the romantsy high since finishing powerless and this was more than what I was looking for! Tension and powers and the sitting up in bed in the middle of a chapter in excitement feeling.

Really tried to push through because I was excited about the possibilities of the plot, but I just couldn’t do it. The world building is almost non existent and scenes had holes so big I could drive a truck through them. That made it ridiculously confusing to read and try and understand what was happening.
There was no character development, the whole premise (or so I thought) was about the trials. The first 20% of the book talked about it, but when it was time for our FMC to face her trails, it lasted three pages
