OH MY GOODNESS! First of all I have to thank the author Lauren for writing this absolutely incredible book and allowing me an e-arc to read! From the minute I started reading it I was sucked into the world and story of Lysta, a young woman doing her absolute best trying to survive in the untrialeds part of the city of Fallend in the Court of Valor. When first hearing of this book on booktok and how the magic is earned instead if the traditional way of being born with/learning I was intrigued and curious how it would be brought about in the book but it was well thought out and simply ingenious (at least from my pov especially with how it varied from each person). There were some crazy twists and turns that figuratively had me on the edge of my seat through the entire book! I seriously cannot wait for the rest of the series especially with the way the book ends

I received a free advanced readers copy of the ebook!
I enjoyed this book. I felt the plot was a bit predictable and the events moved too quickly so that I couldn't really connect to the characters. However, it was still a fun read and I look forward to the sequel.

I first came upon War Hour in a video of Lauren’s, and I found the book very intriguing. To put it simply I could not resist the premise of When powers are earned and not born, who shall wield them. War Hour was fast paced, plot heavy but still focused on solid character development, and I could not put it down. I especially enjoyed the pronunciation guide and the map.

Lysta, the FMC, was strong and determined. She just wanted to help her people be free, no matter the consequences. I enjoyed her relationship with Torryn and their banter. I adored Torryn and his grumpy ways from the start. He was careful, stubborn, and mysterious, but he would burn everything for those he loves. I ate his “who hurt you?” moment right up.

“Tell me who did this, and I will take care of it. Anyone who thought they could lay a hand on you should fear for their life.”

War Hour played with the concept of a person’s character, choices, and moral compass, and with the cliffhanger there is much more to be explored about Aloria, its seven Courts and their Trials. I found the system surrounding the Trials and Trialing process of the different Courts as well as the politics of those in power to be engaging and complex.

It had me on the edge of my seat and I’m excited to learn more on this in future books. The plot twist was masterfully executed, and even though I predicted it, the severity of the betrayal and deception really surprised me.

All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by Lauren’s debut that often turned into a game of life or death with lots of secrets and enemies around each corner. I will be patiently waiting for book number two in the Broken Trial Series.
