This Book was so epic, I first found out about it on Lauren's Instagram and was hooked by one thing, how the magic in this world is earned instead of you being born with power and I thought that was such a cool idea so I gave the book a try and boy was my mind blown, the writing is amazing, I was never bored in any chapter I wasn't lost with the information given unless it was directly held back from both the MC and us the reader, you'll fall in love with the characters and read with bated breath hoping they're okay.

Spoilers beyond this point just warning ⚠️

At first I was confused as to what the main character was, a Boy or girl until a few pages later but Lysta was such a great character, you understood her faults and understood when at first she seemed reluctant to help the "girl" in the alleyway cause everyone is in danger and she had someone relying on her to get back Torryn on the other hand I obviously didn't know he was Torryn in the beginning since he was disguised as Ardis but I was not very trusting of him in the beginning, but as we read the book sometimes you get to know him more he's got an interesting past which is probably why he's the way he is now, I love Sar and I don't think I did not not trust her once she was so sweet from the beginning a little mistrusting of Lysta which is to be expected since she wasn't expecting her, and the actual Ardis who was very charming and alot happier than how Torryn acted, I loved the dynamic of the Courts having different outcomes of the trials and however you completed the trial was how your power was determined, when Evander got introduced I was meh about him for awhile and than Torryn had to tell Lysta to not trust anyone and that had me have trust issues through the whole book, when he was getting close to Lysta I was trying to be okay with it but for two reasons i didnt want him with her, one i liked Torryn better and two i didnt rrally trust Evander too much and then when it got revealed that he was on a different side and backstabbed Lysta I was like aaaaaaaaaaah

overall such a good book and I'm so so so so excited for when Lauren gets to be able to release the second book

I loved the worldbuilding and suspense of this book! The characters feel so real and relatable, and I love the complexities of their relationships with each other. I couldn't put the book down and I am so so excited to know more about Lysta and the Trials and how everything works out.
I will say that some of the dialogue felt forced and stale at times, and that there are some parts of the plot and world that I wished got more explanations. But neither of these things made it difficult to read.
I highly recommend, especially to fans of Red Queen!!

Okay so I got this book as an ARC and first I would like to say thank you to the author for trusting me with this and let’s get into this jaw dropping book.

I could not put this book down it was absolutely amazing I will say I was confused on the mmc because of the back and forth but I am happy to say Torryn is the absolute best and even though Evandar wasn’t that bad I like them morally grey and dark haired. The plot was amazing I loved the whole powers are earned concept it shows real depth and the creativity that went into the trials is just chefs kiss amazing.
The tension between Torryn and Lysta omg please you could cut that with a knife when he says:
“ It isn’t what it seems.”
And he put his face next to hers I was like please I need more and I can’t wait till book two I needed it like yesterday.

This book was excellent. One of my favorite reads of the year. I can’t believe I got to read this as an ARC!! Speaking of - thank you to the author for letting me read and review your story ❤️

War Hour is the first in a new series and follows Lysta, a young orphaned street rat living in a world where powers and abilities are earned through difficult and often deadly “trials” instead of inherited. In the court she was born into, “untrailed” citizens are being coerced into trialing in order for the crown to gain power. After being forced to trial herself, Lysta’s life is turned very much upside down.

This book’s tropes include found family, reluctant/orphaned hero, and a “you came!” “you called” moment (if you know you know)

I LOVED this book, and I already preordered my physical copy!

War Hour has an intriguing premise and it really builds on it. I love the political schemes and magical system which differs from the usual. Even tho the betrayal was quite predictable, the suspense was there and Lysta was truly a heroine whom to support and stand by. Also Torryn deserves sm better and the other dude can go crawl in a ditch... I really enjoyed reading it and cant wait to see what follows.

This book is incredible. I couldn't put it down since the moment I read the first page. The pace is perfect. It isn't too slow but also doesn't feel rushed. You get to know the characters well and they grow on you really fast. I also really liked the main character most of the times (which is very rare for me). There are SO many plot twist that I didn't see coming, but they always make sense and never feel out of the blue and unreasonable. The writing style is neither too easy nor too difficult and there's  always the perfect amount of describing so I could imagine everything but didn't feel bored.
Overall there wasn't a single moment I was bored while reading it. It had me gasping, screaming, almost throwing my e-reader at the wall, laughing, giggling and kicking my feet. I was so immersed in the story, that I forgot everything around me and was dying to know what happens next. And also, the cliff hanger?! I really want to know what happens next :') I know I'll be thinking about this book for the next months, probably years and I really wish it didn't end already. I really really hope there will be a second book (I don't think I' ll survive otherwise)
