I thought of myself in a minor book slump before starting this - just not really feeling inspired to read but still doing it. HOWEVER. I was so flipping engaged in this book!! I loved the premise of earning your powers and fighting for them. Some of the plot, I guessed, but others my jaw was on the floor. Torryn has my heart

5⭐️/ holy GODS what did i just read. this book was genuinely so incredible im sitting here in shock of that last 10%. I have so so many unanswered questions that will not leave my brain for the foreseeable future. I loved how political this book was, it was so interesting and exciting to learn about the courts and the tensions between them all, and the romance was sprinkled in the book SO well that had me giggling and screaming all the time. Once again all i can think about is that ending my GOD?? I demand book 2 immediately

This book is the love child between the sectors and politics from Divergent/Hunger Games and the fantasy/relationships in ACOTAR/Fourth Wing.

This a spice free book but it doesn’t feel like it’s missing anything.

One thing I really enjoyed about this book is that the world building is there but it’s light and I didn’t have to spend the first 1/3 of the book on understanding the land and political climate/history. You gain more knowledge as you read.

Definitely had a book hangover with this one and still think about it often! Can’t wait for the next book.

I DNF’ed this book at chapter 16 it was just too much for me to keep up with and it was just getting to bizarre. I was keeping up with it until they jumped though a portal to a different realm and he shape shifted into a totally different person. It was just a lot.

I have sooooo many thoughts on this debut fantasy book.

First of all, I’d like to thank the author for choosing me as an ARC reader! This was such a cool experience and the story is incredibly unique. I really enjoyed this!!!

Without spoiling anything, I’ll say that the concept of this book is completely novel. People going through tasks, called Trials, in order to get powers?! That’s so fascinating!!!

However, my reasons for only 3 stars….. the plot didn’t fully hook me until I was 25% of the way in, which is a little slower than I’d like. While the plot and concepts were really new and intriguing, I felt there was a lack of detail and substance. Things just seemed a little rushed.

BUT I did really enjoy the world and ideas!!! I think this was a great start for a new author, and I will definitely be keeping my eye out for book 2!

War Hour by Lauren Loscig is unputdownable. The INTRIGUE. The PLOT. THE CHARACTERS!! Ladies this romantasy is a serious must read. I bought this right when the author first published because I loved the idea and it has been sitting on my shelf ever since. I am SO happy I made that purchase, I only wish I'd read it sooner.
The plot twists will drop your jaw to the floor. The writing is amazing. The characters and the narrator felt so distinct and unique from what I've expierenced in other books similar to this one. It took a well known dynamic and flipped it on its head many times over.
I am dying for book two to come out. A must read.

I cannot believe that ending!!! I need book 2 now!!

I devoured this book!! I binged it in less than a day because I could not put it down.

I have not read a magic system like this one! Powers are earned through trials unique to each of the seven courts. The power you receive from the trial depends on how you complete the challenge.

The slight love triangle had me on my toes! I was second guessing everyone’s motives the entire time and wondering along with the main character who we could trust.

But that ENDING! Why did you leave me so happy and so sad?!
