I really liked this book and found myself tearing up at times. I think it was nice that we don’t find out right away what illness/disease the main character is worried about.

I loved the two main characters and getting to watch the relationship go from friends, to best friends, to taking a chance and being a couple. Those are the types of relationships I like to see. They have so much chemistry and I loved how they helped each other work through their family issues/ emotional trauma from family issues.

I like the message of not waiting or being a “one day” type of person. But I think there was too much going on to focus on the main topic, like the hoarding, the baby, and drug addiction, etc.

overall there was just something missing for me.  I’m back and forth on rating.

Such a beautiful story about family, love, adoption, illness, death, grief, addiction…so many big topics! I loved it. My favorite Abby Jimenez book so far!

I have mixed feelings about this book. I think it started off strong. I liked both main characters; and, I thought they had good chemistry together. Vanessa is the sunshine to Adrian's grump. At times the book can be a bit contrived. I went along with it cause I was intrigued by the possibilities of where the story would go. Unfortunately, I felt like the book fizzled towards the middle. I feel writer fast-tracks their relationship - making them at ease with accepting each other off the bat - but then slowburns them with silly lack of communication. I don't think the writer gave Vanessa and Adrian's romance enough depth, so all the talk of them being each others One True Love didn't feel authentic. Then you get to end and realize all the drama in the third act really was for nothing cause a key point of Vanessa's story gets erased. Also, I had issues with Adrian barely taking care of the elder dog he fostered. I feel like the writer played these scenes as comedic, but neglecting a pet isn't funny to me. As a whole the book has some highs and lows, and it's up to the reader if they want to be on the rollercoaster
