A hard read because of the possibility of such a harsh future becoming a reality. But beautifully written and somehow hopeful despite its grimness.

This book broke my heart into a million tiny pieces so many times. It's just so sad and yet incredibly beautiful. It gets love so right: among humans in its different forms and towards nature.
There's so much more to say about it but right now I'll say it's become one of my favorite books.

I see from a lot of the reviews that people love the prose style, the main character, and the setting. I found it pretty tedious. The prose was flat; the climate implications of vanishing species addresses in the shallowest possible way; and the main character was deeply unlikable.
