I didn't want this book to end! Also, who wants to get together and binge on early SNL episodes?!

In a nutshell: LOTS of interviews. Lots of common themes (Lorne Michaels is a father figure in both good and bad ways, Chevy Chase is a giant bag of dicks, Chris Farley was so funny and aspired to be just like Belushi, the early 80s years were weird, every cast gets the "this is the worst cast ever" treatment, and the media loves using the term "Saturday Night Dead" in headlines). Interesting, sometimes even compelling, but I'm never gonna read it again. Still worth checking out.

I've been meaning to read this for close to two decades, and finally listened to it. So it follows that this book is 20 years out of date, but regardless it's an excellent history of the show and is a truly fantastic audiobook. It's told almost entirely through quotes, and the voice actors do a great job impersonating famous voices like Billy Crystal, Adam Sandler, and Norm McDonald.

It ends in the era of Will Ferrell, Cheri Oteri, and around the time Tina Fey and Jimmy Fallon took over Weekend Update. The story being told in first person using the quotes of the writers, actors, and hosts is a genius choice. It's compelling and is structured beautifully.

Highly recommend to fans of the show in any era from 1975-2001.
