i really enjoyed the experience of this read,,, love the feeling of interconnected feelings and lives and experiences- one big web! so human! so interesting. the language stuck w me and turned over in my head. a lot of the ideas and stories would pop up throughout my life during this month of reading. it’s not as much about wolves as you’d think!
reading the last bit of this book while micro dose watching god’s own country…,..,!!!!!

Very informative book about wolves and history of wolves and humans interacting. Specifically. This goes into tales of hunting and preservation. It talks about both sides. It also talks about the stories of wolves, Red Riding Hood, and other archetypes our relationship to the wild, And touches on elements of feminism and Independence throughout different segments of the book
Overall, it's a very informative book about wolves and humanity's interaction. With the wild, it seemed very unbiased talking about all kinds of perspectives and I learned some interesting history and facts.

Erica Berry and I have a lot in common. We're both Oregon-born, temporarily lived cross country to write, are similar in age, have literary educations, and have researched wolves extensively (I have also been "thinking about wolves in some capacity since 2013," and was familiar with almost every reference to wolf lore she cited).
Reading this felt like holding up a mirror, if not for an MFA/the difference of traditional publishing success, and good for her. If looking for symbolic patterns is your wheelhouse, as with us literary writers, you are likely to find much food for thought here.
Some disparate connections seemed like a stretch, and can meander in doing so. Berry's writing is journalistic, so the book as a whole moves like an extensive feature article. This is the caveat for me, at least: it reads less so a cohesive narrative structure with a clear overarching message than a constellation of tenuously linked, yet refined observations and concepts. Given my affinity for the subject matter, I salute her thoroughness.
