Honestly could have gone for more Wolf! A lot of the memoir section is great but a lot of it feels like a stretch to wolf connection. Playing with common wolf mythologies, also great, but some felt belabored. OR-7s journey was awesome to follow and nicely woven in throughout!

Follows literal wolves, folklore and scary incidents and the reactions and interpretations by the author and by society. Sometimes feels like reading somebody thinking (in a good way).

this is a memoir shoehorned into stories about wolves. it reads like a college essay literature review of vaguely wolf-centric stories. focuses a lot on the author's own life, barely covers OR-7's journey despite that being the guiding narrative of the book (supposedly). i'm a wolf lover and could barely get through this book despite its purpose and subject matter.

This book is more like 375 pages of small, loosely connected essays. The chapter titles rarely give insight to what the discussion will be, and the author’s admitted anxiety shines through in her compulsive need to cite sources rather than footnote them. Still, the author’s clearly talented voice shines through. In the best way, this book helped me to understand the compulsive fear in white women’s lives and the way it can be good, bad, and in-between. If you are seeking a book focused clearly on wolves then I would recommend looking elsewhere. This book is a reflective look at fear through occasional mentions of wolves.

This book was very dense but had so many beautiful and interesting insights into the intersections between fear and the stories we tell about our own fear. I don't think I have had the chance to read about someone who is so closely examining their rights to fear, which situations fear is warranted and most interestingly when is fear useful? Berry has me very excited to read more of their work.

this book took me a while to get through, in part because the constant info dumps about wolves do get boring after a while when i’m not in the mood for a more educational read (although to be fair, i know that’s part of this book), but overall, wow the writing. erica berry has such a way with words and such a natural voice for storytelling. i would loveeeee to read fiction written by her! overall, i did enjoy this book, and i loved dipping from introspections on what it means to be a woman, to learning more about wolves in america.
