Boring and lacking nuance. Shallow cultural criticism and wolf facts.

Interesting and beautifully written but, and maybe it's my post covid brain, I really struggled to finish. The storylines jumped in an out too often and I struggled to follow.

Parts of this were really good. Being the wolf lover that I am, I loved reading a good chunk of this book.
What did not work is the author randomly interspersing the wolf sections (AKA what this book is actually supposed to be about, according to the title, cover and synopsis) with anecdotes her own personal life. This'd be one thing if her life was connected to the topic in question, but it's not, no matter how hard Berry tries to convince us that it is. A man you find creepy sitting besides you on the train has nothing to do with wolves.
The book keeps trying to balance being a solid wolf non-fiction with being a memoir about Berry's life and personal experiences and it does not work. Very jarring to read.

If you can get past the “woke-speak”, it’s a lovely book about interesting creatures. It was likened to H is for Hawk and while I didn’t find it as wonderful, it was very thought provoking. Have you ever noticed how many negative connotation there are with wolves? You will notice now.
I thought Berry did a fabulous job of presenting both the conservationists view points, but also their opposition. The view seemed very fair and open minded.
