Someone get this woman some Prozac.
An interesting perspective, but much more so a story of a woman as opposed to a story of a wolf. The examination of the folklore behind wolf stories was intriguing but the anecdotes felt focused toward a female audience.
Interesting points and connections between cultural attitudes towards fear and towards wolves. Her stories about being harassed on the train and accidentally poisoning herself while foraging in Italy were particular standouts. Needed a heavier editing hand to trim the fat and make it less repetitive/meandering.
Fascinating book about fear, wolves, and the families we have and the families we make.
I loved this book - Erica writes SO clearly, with every sentence a perfectly-crafted gift, and with so much rich observation about the natural world. The personal narratives wove seamlessly in with the wolfish wonderings and added depth and breathless pacing to the flow of the story. Maybe I’m biased (having also taken classes with Matt Klingle and Anthony Walton), but I couldn’t stop reading this book until I had devoured every page!

this book took me forever to finish-mostly, i think, because there were SO many quotes from other authors and references to outside sources that interrupted the flow of the narrative, which made it feel like an extremely long college essay instead of a book.
3.5 verging on 4.0. Far more memoir than I had expected or wished for. Interesting integration of various themes, fields of study. Simply did not satisfy in ways I had expected.
