I hate to say this about such a well loved classic, but I found this book very boring.
The problem lies in the fact that the resolution of the mystery, a mystery that powers 90% of the story, is well well known in popular culture.
The only part I found particularly interesting were the last few pages focusing on the titular character's conflict between his two persona. Everything else is just plotty mystery and we know exactly where it's going. If the conflict had been introduced near the beginning and that acted as the engine for the story, I would have enjoyed it a lot more and think that would have made a fascinating story.
But then, this was obviously written at a time when no one knew what the hell the book was about.
So, I guess, my point is it doesn't age well if you're just reading it for the story.
In terms of actual writing quality, that's where the 3 stars come in.
