Funny, I remembered this one as a really good one, but rereading does not solidify that memory. It's uneven, the racism overt, the denouement/solution contrived. An unusual bright spot is Jane, who is from a lower class that the rest of the characters and we don't often get that in a Christie.

I loved Jane's part in this book -hearing the thoughts & actions of a young woman during this time period was a great break from the times, and her relationship to Poirot was sweet.
The mystery itself was full of red herrings, and I was unprepared for the ending!

Perfectly pleasant book. The manner of death was a little far fetched but the book was enjoyable and not slow. Very classic Agatha Christie.
