Haunting book, beautifully written, about people dealing with loss in their own ways, but all tied to the ocean which in one way or another is central to their lives.

Just not sure what to think here. I struggled with the unreliable narrator and veiled language, but also recognize that the book was beautiful and probably just requires a cognitive effort a level above what I was willing to give at this time.

felt like a book you’d have to read in high school English and write an essay about even though you have no idea what it means. which is why I’m not rating it - I’d have to reread with a pen in hand to make much sense of it.
A fresh, poetic irreverent voice that is at once teenage rebel crossed with a modern day Circe. A quick, violent, wet read, filled with love and madness and metaphor so deep and vivid that it can disorient and displace the action into a place very personal. THE SEAS is a novel in this new tradition of poetic, rowdy, terse, fearless female voices like Sarah Magnuson and Maggie Nelson but Hunt’s voice reads almost like their kid sister - not naive but rather wide-open and eavesdropping and drawing her own bright conclusions. I found it sparkling like the ocean on a cold morning.
