This was unexpected. The author did an exceptional job at retelling an old tale and giving it a new twist. There was humor and suspense. Were there moments that were a tad over-the-top? Yes. However, the gist of the story kept me turning the pages. It was interesting to see the Gods in new light and the various interactions. The trials, at times, got to be distracting. Not that they weren't needed but I wanted more of the romance between Persy and Hades. This was tamer than I normally read in regards to steam (it didn't happen until much later in the book) but that didn't detract from the story.
This ended with the repercussion happening for the person that was the catalyst/instigator in this story and felt like it was leading to another story. It wasn't A cliffhanger but more like it was open ended to continue at a later time.

I'm glad I'm able to read the complete collection on Kindle Unlimited since each book ends on a cliffhanger (of course, the author would want you to buy the next book lol).
Yes, it's another The Selection bachelor competition trope. However, unlike other books of the same trope, there is no "go on a date with the bachelor" moment. The goal of the competition is to essentially not die and maybe you'll get to marry the bachelor in the end. I give it a solid 3-stars. Not bad, but not the best thing I've ever read either. A nice break from the emotional damage caused by other books I've read recently. The mystery surrounding Persy's past with Hades drives the story forward as the two try to rekindle their past romance.
The smut is meh in my opinion. It seems like the author put in those scenes just to meet the most minimal of requirements of a romance. There are also a couple of grammatical errors that grate on this former copy editor. However, I was entertained by the characters and the storyline. It's a different take on the Persephone x Hades story and not a bad one at that.
