I wish we had more lead up before the major battle but I guess one could argue that the last 4 books were the lead up...
The end had me all sentimental. These books were a solid piece of my childhood. I think I may need to read the next series to keep the good vibes going

A fitting conclusion to this coming-of-age tale. The story definitely grows with Percy, especially in [b:The Battle of the Labyrinth|2120932|The Battle of the Labyrinth (Percy Jackson and the Olympians, #4)|Rick Riordan|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1361039398s/2120932.jpg|2377629] and this book.

This book was a great way to finish the series. I'm now looking forward to another Camp Half-Blood series; Riordan sure knows how to weave a story brimming with action, humor, and excitement!
What I've really liked about Percy Jackson and the Olympians is that even though Percy is the protagonist, everything doesn't always begin and end with him; the other characters too play a major role in the unfolding of events in these stories and that way Riordan manages to spring a surprise or two now and then without making the storyline too predictable.
The Last Olympian ties up the loose ends well and we are given insights into the past lives of both Nico and Luke through a series of flashbacks. And then of course, there's the epic battle between Kronos's army and the heroes. I enjoyed reading the battle scenes and the subtle humor underlying these tense battle moments. The ending was a surprise and I was glad it didn't turn out to be something really trite and predictable.
I actually didn't like the first two books in the series, but now that I'm definitely a fan, I should probably go back and give them another read. Oh and next time there's a Greek mythology clue in the crossword, I'm sure to get it right!
