Listen, this is not a great book. If you found Bella’s inner monologue insufferable at times, you’re in for a wild ride with this one. But the thing is, i knew that. I knew going into this book that i was going to spend most of the time i was reading the book banging my head against a wall. I don’t know if there is anything more uncomfortable than having to listen to Edward’s thoughts about Bella and everyone around him for >600 pages.
But, surprisingly, I found some entertainment in all the scenes where vampire boy is with his family. I think it’s funny that whenever Stephenie Meyer tries to make a character seem like a bully in these books (namely Rosalie) she only makes them an audience insert.
I did actually really like the fact that we got more “candid” interactions between the Cullens, seeing more of the family dynamics between the “siblings” (namely everyone bullying Edward for being dense as fuck).
I didn’t like Edward’s thoughts though. Which, as you might recognize, is a little bit of an issue, because this entire book is just Edward’s thoughts. He’s even more insufferable and creepy than he is in the original books. I think everyone in the Cullen-Household is glad that they didn’t get the mind reading ability, because being able to listen to this creep’s thoughts all day, every day for d e c a d e s? Nightmare material.
I read this together with a friend, which is probably why I’m giving two stars instead of one. It’s just hilarious to read some passages of this book out loud. Other than that? It’s not good, what else do you want me to say.

I liked this better than Twilight. Im a sucker for anything told from the perspective of a morally dark character. I was sooo locked in for this.
Opening Line: This was the time of day when I most wished I were able to sleep.

This is the one book by Stephanie Meyer that I can say I actually LOVED. I'm not a big romance, fantasy, or romantasy person, but this book was amazing. Edward being so self-loathing and thinking of himself as a monster so vehemently pretty much perfectly encapsulated what it felt like to be a normal 17-year-old human being with a crush. His vitriolic hatred for everything he represents is just so deliciously written. I couldn't get enough. As I told my friend, "Who would choose the 'I'm so clumsy' girl POV over the 'I am a literal monster from Hell' POV?"
