Reread Sept 25th 2025- I keep forgetting how much Edward’s truly hates himself. I do love seeing his point of view though. Still in love with this book!

Reread Nov 17th 2024- Still love this!

Read Aug 6th 2020- 10 stars! This gets all the stars. I absolutely love being in Edward's mind. I would give my soul to have New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn in Edward's point of view. This is brilliant. I hate to say this but it's more emotional when it's coming from Edward. His resentment for what he is and the pain he feels for being in Bella's life hurts my heart. Edward's love for Bella feels different now. I'm so thankful Stephenie wrote this. I just hope she completes the series in his pov. I'm desperate for it!

This is unintentionally hilarious; I love Edward bad. Him trying to kill all the spiders in the room, counting bugs in the meadow while anxious, and using Emmett as the side view mirror is wonderful. Edward’s constant “keep it light” then doing EVERYTHING that is not light. I like that this expands on all the Cullens; Jasper and Emmet were surprisingly delightful and it explains more about Rosalie’s disdain. Honestly the best of the twilight books and I really wish the whole series was duel pov.

Stephenie Meyer’s Midnight Sun, a complete retelling of Twilight from Edward Cullen’s perspective, is a perplexing endeavor that adds little value for readers familiar with the original. Despite being published 15 years later, the narrative is essentially a faithful reconstruction, featuring identical dialogue, chapters, and plot structure. While Edward’s internal monologue provides context often missing from the original, the book’s sheer length and lack of divergence make it a challenging read immediately following Twilight. The book confirms that a dual-perspective narrative would have significantly enriched the original text, offering a more well-rounded view of both characters’ motivations. However, Midnight Sun itself does not offer enough distinct content to justify its existence as a standalone companion novel.

The original pacing issues also persist, yet a more significant concern emerges in the novel’s treatment of the Quileute people.

Midnight Sun repeatedly focuses on Edward’s perception of the Quileutes as an unreliable, treaty-breaking indigenous group, casting the Cullen family as innocent victims. This narrative choice, which emphasizes the "betrayal" of a treaty by the indigenous group, feels acutely jarring and problematic against the backdrop of real-world history concerning Indigenous peoples and repeated treaties broken and / or fraudulently created by white settlers. The consistent dwelling on this point of view unfortunately reads as a conscious choice to simplify and demonize the indigenous group, adding a layer of ethical discomfort to an otherwise structurally flawed retelling.

Whoever told me about this book LIED. You people said that I would learn more about Edward before he met Bella. I literally learned nothing, this is legit just twilight from a different POV. All of Edward’s backstory was already said in the original 4 books. But I guess its only fair that Edward finally gets a book since Breaking Dawn was 1/2 Jacob’s POV. I just wish we got an Edward book from the New Moon timeline :/
