I started off really liking this, I think the first half was really good with good pacing and storyline whereas the second was just a bit all over the place. I also definitely feel like I would've enjoyed this more if I hadn't read the best pride & prejudice modernisation (bridget jones diary thrice), however, I did like the diversity and different perspectives it brought! I also I feel like for p&p the lizzie and darcy counterparts should've had that romantic tension brew for a bit longer because their relationship just felt so bloody random, like ha ha hee hee we love eachother now. Idk!

I appreciate the mapping of familiar tropes and characters onto a narrative that foregrounds fresh perspectives. Overall though I'm not sure how P&Pish I ultimately found the story in the end. I do wonder how much someone who did not attend a small liberal arts school would enjoy this, since the setting was quite dominant, sometimes I think slightly to the detriment of the plot/characters. I did attend one, so

Did you know that it is both allowed and encouraged to have a books where trans characters and women of colour live happy, fulfilled lives with fleshed out storylines and lots of kissing?? Eden Appiah-Kubi knows that and gives us what we want :))

I thought this was cute! I am, of course, a sucker for Pride and Prejudice retellings and this one did not follow the original as closely as others that I have read-- I'd say it was more loosely-inspired-by. That's ok though! It worked as is and I thought it was a nice, fun, easy, and diverting read.

This was okay...

Book was due back at the library and I'm not sure when or if I'll check it out again

Two dogs on a fluffy blanket with a book

First of all, look at that cover!!! It is gorgeous! I love the design and all the vibrant colours. This beautiful book is marketed as a retelling of Pride and Prejudice. I read Pride and Prejudice and have seen several movie versions of the book and thought I knew the story well. I was not able recognise the plot in THE BENNET WOMEN. The story was cute and entertaining but did not reach me as I hope. I could not relate to the characters. I did however enjoy the multiculturalism aspect offered in the story and the strong female characters. This book will probably be more appreciate by a younger generation. It has good morale and insight on how to make good life choices.
