I really liked this book, especially the stories of believers around the world who really do have to count the cost of following Christ. A cost that could very well require their life.
I appreciated the perspective that the only way to end religious persecution is for people to stop coming to Christ in hostile territory. Definitely a different perspective I had never considered.
It's so encouraging to hear stories about how God is moving--often in spite of our failings. That he moves the same way now that he always has. He remains unchanging.

“The price for obedience might be different in different places-but it is always possible to obey Christ's call to make disciples. Every believer—in every place-is always free to make that choice.” So many encouraging and challenging stories from fellow brothers and sisters.

Overall this was a very good read. I found it to be unique for a missionary book, and Nik is very knowledgeable about the persecuted church. Nik and his family spent time in Malawi, Kenya, Somalia, China and many unnamed countries around the world. It's very unique that he has the perspective of so many different cultures and countries. Nik is a talented writer, and the stories he shares in this book kind of come in quick succession, not allowing time for a reader to get bored.
I wholeheartedly disagree with his final conclusion on if we should pray for persecution to end, however, I do understand his reasoning based on his experiences and what he has seen in his travels.

In my opinion, this should be read side by side with The Insanity of Obedience.
This was a pretty good book. I think if you want to enter the mission field this is a good book for you! Even as believers at home, hearing what is happening out on the mission field is good! I’m not sure how beneficial it would be for new believers but it could be one of those that is read multiple times in your faith journey.
