This read like a very weird mix between extremely young YA and then adult all in the same paragraph. The world building was not there at all, and the “big twists” weren’t even explained at all. It was quite a let down.

I had a hard time deciding on the grade I wanted to put on this book. I was hooked, I wanted to know more and more but I was so frustrated because at the end I did not have all my answers .. which makes me in a hurry to have the sequel.
The atmosphere is dark and gloomy. The writing is lovely , very poetic.
The characters are so mysterious with so many layers ..
Orlaith doesn't have the behavior I prefer in a main character, she is addicted to drugs and dependent on people.. even if I understood why .. but the author succeeded in making her character evolve as the book progressed.
Rhordyn is a mystery , I don’t know if I hate him or love him , probably both.
The author succeeded in making me addicted to an almost non-existent romance and put plot-twists I didn’t see coming…
I have hope for the sequel with the romance and so many questions …

I really enjoyed this book! It has a great plot and all of the mysteries have me completely hooked. I'm not as invested in the romance as I usually am bc Rhordyn is such a dick that I don't find myself rooting for him and Orlaith. Normally the asshole love interest has at least some redeeming moments that give you hope he's actually a good dude but I'm struggling with this one. I hope we see some more positives sides to him in the next book. Otherwise I'm loving the writing and am super intrigued about where this story is going!

This book got me out of my book slump I absolutely love this story!
I’ve just finished reading this book and holy moly hell! I’m hooked I was sobbing at ridiculous o clock last night because it was breaking my heart! It’s a dark retelling of rapunzel but with a twist and the angst oh my god!
Would definitely recommend to those who lose a dark fantasy romance! Like if you loved Amelia Hutchins LOT9R series, zodiac academy, hooked series etc it’s definitely abit of you (check TWs) I’m heading straight into book two now because I’m addicted and I know things are about to get crazy 😬😏
Chefs kiss! 😘

Yeah… This was a no from me. I almost DNF’d it several times and now I wish I had. There was no world building, at all, you were simply in places without any introduction to the lore etc, it was like going in blind. I found the FMC irritating and the MMC being sexually attracted to someone who he’s raised since the age of two? Not for me thank you.
Gutted that this was my first Rapunzel retelling and I hated it.
TWs: drug abuse, graphic depictions of injury, overstimulation

Decent start to a potentially promising series
This is definitely a decent start to a potentially promising series. The characters draw you in, the twists are subtle but intriguing and the plot moves at a bearable pace, though slow at times.
Overall, I enjoyed it.
My only complaint is that it feels a bit sloppy, like the following books are going to have to work extra hard to pull everything together into a cohesive knot.
Also, the MC feels very much like a YA female MC set against a non YA setting so it can definitely be frustrating trying to reconcile this.
