One of my favorite new series. The FMC is a sheltered young woman who is running away from her fears but also has a very rich internal dialogue. The characters are complex with flaws and engaging personalities.
Spoilers to follow:
I love Orlaith and Kai and want the world for them. I really want to know more about them both.
Orlaith is a both childlike and a snarky adult in a way that seems very natural to her life and her world. I really hope she finds more of her own voice.
Kai - Love him. Want to know more about him. Excellent character.
Baze is extremely flawed and pretty cowardly but that is part of what makes him interesting - he's got growth potential and probably a really intriguing back story
Rhordyn probably has potential but he also is pretty much an abusive guy who groomed a child to give him part of here body than gets mad when she develops the attachment he groomed to her feel. He is a bully and literally forces her when she refuses to give him her blood.
Cain - an enigma that could go any way.
The story itself is emotionally complex set in an equally complex world with great potential.

This was phenomenal. Brilliant writing, enthralling story, captivating characters, engaging relationships, tension that you can cut with a knife slowburn to it's finest.
This is one of my favorite reads of 2022.
If you've been hesitating to read this book, I hope you take this as a sign to buy and read it now.

Pretty good book at laying intrigue down. I want to see where this series will go. Who is Orlaith really? Why is she so coveted by everyone? Too many questions and not enough answers in book one. I will definitely check out book 2 to find those answers!
